1UP's Favorite Games of 2012 - RE: Revelations

Excerpt: Like any year in video game history, 2012 had its share of interesting surprises, but the one involving Capcom's fan-favorite Resident Evil series may have shocked me the most. If I could travel back and place a bet on which of 2012's three RE-related projects would deliver a satisfying survival horror experience -- one that felt in line with the original game -- I would've placed the safe bet on Resident Evil 6. Judging from some early trailers and Captivate impressions, how could I not? And, somehow, it turns out I would have chosen wrong. Resident Evil Revelations, a portable experience for Nintendo's 3DS, pulled off an unfathomable upset over its console counterparts.

Resident Evil: Revelations wins “Best TPS of 2012”!

Resident Evil: Revelations wins “Best Third Person Shooter of 2012”!

"Resident Evil has certainly enjoyed a roller coaster of all time highs and lows throughout the years. The fourth entry, despite being one of the best reviewed and beloved games of all time, had its fair share of detractors complaining about the series' departure from its strictly survival horror roots. That little tidbit of information is very important because it explains precisely why Resident Evil: Revelations is such an astonishingly good game.

Blending the best jump scares and creeping horror from the first three entries of the franchise with the impeccable action oriented perspective and controls from the second half of the series means that this is arguably the best of both worlds, and that not only surprised but greatly impressed us. Of course, the fantastic visuals and moody audio mixed with the sheer amount of content and addictive multiplayer means that not only is this a great handheld game, but it would've been an excellent main entry in the franchise."

According to information from Geno, a reliable source that ended up being right about the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow projects (LoS 2 and MoF) and Kingdom Hearts HD Collection, Resident Evil Revelations is now being listed as coming not just to the PS3 and 360, but will also be release for the Wii U game console as well.

The same source claims that a special edition of Resident Evil 6 (that features a Claire Redfield scenario) and a sequel to Operation Raccoon City, will also come out for all consoles, including the Wii U.

Resident Evil: Revelations coming to PS3 and 360? (Rumor)

A user at NeoGaf noticed that the Korean Game Rating committee rated Resident Evil: Revelations and will soon come out for both the 360 and the PS3 game consoles.

When reached to confirm or deny it, Capcom has said that it won’t make any statements based on rumors. The fact that they didn’t deny the rumor (which they could’ve easily done if it was), is quite telling.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE (January 27th, 2013): Resident Evil: Revelations has been officially confirmed for home consoles and PC. It will go on sale on May 21 in the U.S., and May 24 in Europe.
